I want to thank you for stopping by Simply Sweet By B and learning a little bit about how I started my company.
In 2012 I was a Firefighter wife and Mom of two small children. At that time there wasn’t anything out on the market for me to show off how proud I was of being a Firefighter wife. Being the crafty person that I am, I thought, “why don’t I create a purse that would show just that.” My Firefighter wife purse was born. You can click here to see it.
As any Firefighter Wife knows, there are a lot of hours that you are alone while your Firefighter is on shift. In this case, I used that time to create new items and launched my Etsy shop in March of 2013.
Life was about to change….
By the end of 2013 my Firefighter decided to divorce me and fortunately my shop had already been launched, and as a stay at home Mom I had a hope of being able to solely support my kids and myself. I was VERY concerned that we wouldn’t make it on this small business income. I wondered if other Firefighter Wives or Firefighters would even like the items that I create, but thankfully other Firefighter wives LOVED my products and we made it through those early years in my business. At this time I have sold over 12,000 items and I am so grateful to each and every one of my customers.
Making sure your items are safe……
Above all, one of my concerns when making my items look like Firefighter turnout gear was if I should use actual bunker gear or a new fabric with the same look. Hence, I knew for sure that I did not want to re-use turnout gear for the many baby and toddler items that I was creating. After much research and consideration I chose to create all of my items with the new fabric that looks just like the bunker gear without the odor that turnout gear has as well as the possible toxins that could remain even after several washings. In conclusion, my customer’s safety is my number one priority.
Generally, my main goal with my shop is to create items that will make memories and show pride for Firefighters or Firefighter Families. For example, I love to know that I have put a smile on the face of anyone receiving my items.
